Default fuel pump sock

I am replacing the fuel sender on my 85 with one out of another truck. The sock on the sending unit has had it on both of them. The only way I have found it is if you buy a sending unit. It is a press fit on the pickup tube. Does anyone know where I can get just the sock?

Thanks

Did you check the local auto parts store? Advance sells some separately. What is the truck, engine, fuel pump?

OKslow... what happened to the stock sock? Just curious b/c I'm thinking of replacing the sending units on my '86. Something's blocking fuel feed when below half-tank. I'll be removing the bed to examine the tank, as well as other things leading up to & including the filter.

It is just old-falling apart so it won't filter very well. The only reason I had it out is b/c the gas gauge didn't work. My buddy gave me a used sender-but the sock on it is falling apart too. I found a replacement sock at the dealer today. I took the bed off and found out the sender is up under the cab! It did make it easy to get the lines off, though. If you are pulling the sender out, the tank has to come out. Just looking at it, I think the lines would be a real PITA if you didn't lift the bed a little to get to them.

Well... can those rubber lines that connect the sending unit to the hard lines before the tank valve switch assembly be removed at the sending unit by only lifting the bed off the frame? I think those non-FI rated hoses are finally giving-way to suction from my inline fuel pump. Assuming the fuel sloshes around in the tank (during braking & cornering) enough to starve the pump for fuel, possibly leading to collapsing the hose between the hard line & sending unit. I don't know if that's the right train of thought.... it's just an assumption. Right now, I have to keep the tanks filled above 1/2 level to ensure no problems with start-up and driving.

This is one of those things that I put on a back burner, and needed to revisit. It wasn't a major concern b/c from the pump to the tank, there was only suction action. Had it been the pump to the motor, I wouldn't chance driving it due to overpressure. I have FI-rated lines from the pump to the motor. If I ever decide to dump the stock tanks for a rear-mounted 20-something gallon cell, new hard lines are getting mounted front to rear with braided short lines & AN fittings interfacing to the fuel rail and cell. Oh yea... in-tank pump (if possible).

I just replaced my pass side tank and removed the drivers side tank. Did not touch the bed.
Can be a pain, I suppose, but I had nobody to help me lift the bed. It can be done, I've actually dropped the tank a couple times, gonna mount it for good today after work.

I guess laziness was the only reason I hadn't dropped it. Gonna get my issue resolved this year. Tune to be finalize the first week of June. Will drive it to the track for a few runs on TnT day to get summer times, and wait for winter times later this year... since I have a better trans now. Curious to know how much better my 1320' times will be compared to the first time out of 14.3s.

I dunno where the valve is-I only have 1 tank. I guess I will try putting it back together with bed on. All I did was take out the drivers side bolts, loosen the passengers and jack up the drivers side w/a floor jack. The only reason I did that is b/c I was too stupid to look under the truck and see where the tank was before I took it apart.
