Default Computer Programming?

I have bought an 04 Chevy 2500 for the motor and tranny in it. I plan to drop the motor and tranny in an 80's model c10. My question is, since I have the whole donor truck, wouldn't I be able to pull all of the electronics and use them on the truck I plan on building without having to send off my PCM?

Use the donor wiring harness and computer. The PCM will need to be custom tuned to function in the older sheet metal. It's not a big deal. I've tuned several LS engines in classic tin using donor PCM's, they run great.

You would need to have the downstream O2's and COT turned off in the computer, as well as several DTC's. Also, if you plan on running without a MAF the PCM would be set up to run in speed density.

You might want to consider moulding the 04 instrument cluster into the C10 dash too, that way you won't need to play around with getting different gauges to work. The PCM would also be tuned for the different axle & tires too.

Thanks for the info man! I planned on trying to use the whole dash from the 04 if I can, if not I will just mold the gauge cluster in. When I get the 85 c10, I believe, I will start a thread on building it.
