Default 1977 c10

I recently got a 1977 c10 and was planning on swapping in a big block from a dump truck. it is a 454 not a 366. I was going to see if anyone else has done this swap and hopefully see some pics of the engine bay. any info and pics are much appreciated.

Please don't do it, 366 don't make much power at all and not much you can do with them

You say it's a 454 not a 366?
Is it a tall deck 454?

If it truly is a 454 then it's from the later topkick ( late 90's) line and it's a Vortec engine. The L21 requires nothing special to install in a half ton.

Anything that is "tall deck" from some 60, 70's, 80's or earlier 90's heap is either a 366 or 427.... which make excellent boat anchors, lol.

Truthfully the 427 can accomodate some serious cubic inches and has a 4.25" bore to start with and the taller deck height. The 366 is only packing a 3.935" standard bore and I suppose you could sonic test to see how much it safely can take as some claim that you can go to the 427 bore with them..... but I don't really see it.

The deck on a engine with "truck" cast into it ( 366 or 427 ) is .4" taller the normal big blocks.

Even the L21 Vortec 454 from a Topkick isn't "Tall deck".

No C60, C65, C70 or whatever else ever had factory 454's in them either prior to the Topkick with the afforementioned L21 Vortec's......

Good info. I knew they made 366 and 427 tall deck motors but couldn't remember positively if they made a 454 version. They weigh a bunch too so they're not the greatest engine choice for a C10 IMHO.

Its not in an actual dump truck, just like a 2500/3500 with a dump bed on it. Sorry for the misinformation there. Im not sure if its a tall deck or not. I dont have much knowledge about big blocks, have always been around small blocks.

I've been told by some other people I've talked to to swap on a set of 396/427 heads to raise compression and swap the cam, intake, and carb and have a pretty nice running engine. Have any of you guys done that or heard of anyone else doing it?

So it's not a tall deck. Yes, that is fairly common on the early BBC's. What year is the engine/truck?

The truck it is in is a mid 1980's model, the truck it is going in is a 2wd 1977 C10. It was originally a 305 small block truck.
