Is it faster than your old lightning? If not i'll bet its not far off and probably cost less/easier to mod. These trucks are true hot rods. Hard to believe 7000#'s can move like that, well not really its a DURAMAX.

No, the Lightning ran 10's on race gas, 11.20's on the 91 octane tune. Being over 2000 pounds lighter helps a lot............ But for 7000 pounds this truck is very impressive.

What helped you learn the software the best? I know you took the class and you also have access to Nicks library. All the tables in the software are a bit overwhelming and not having the time to really play with it hurts too.

I had already done a lot of tuning before this diesel, so it was basically figuring out what areas to concentrate on. They are different than what I was used to; no a/f to look at, can't lean them out and hurt them, etc. But things like timing, fuel, boost still apply. The class wasn't much help as it was a pretty basic introduction deal.

The big help for me was starting with a decent tune like Nicks as you mentioned, and then making small changes and datalogging in a consistent manner. What I did was found a deserted road near my home where I could make a 0-100 mph wot run safely without traffic or side streets, homes, etc. Then I did a 4wd launch at the same rpm everytime, going the same direction, starting at the same place, etc. to limit variables. I broke down 0-60 mph, 60-80 mph, 80-100 mph, and 0-100 mph out of a single 0-100 mph run. The EFI Live datalogger gives real time in seconds to the thousandths, and is very accurate. It is real easy to see if a change you made helped or hurt, and where in the run it helped or hurt. Try not to make too many changes at once so the results don't get skewed. The above is for performance changes. If you leave the cruise and low throttle areas along driveability is a non-issue. The other thing people are looking for is mileage, so datalogging timing, pulse width, commanded mm3, etc. at cruising speeds will help a lot. Try small changes in timing, boost, etc. and see how the mileage goes. I will say, I haven't found much to help in this area as well as just driving with a light foot.
