Default Tired of being outran by you Diesel 8luggers!

Cruising down the interstate the other day at 70mph..I cruise up to this 2500 CC Dmax lifted on 35's prolly and I let him know I wanna play. Bad idea..he hit it and as fast as I could I hit it and he just left me. I stopped REAL quick and just cruised as he went on his way. Also street raced a 300k mile one froma dig and he wasnt to far behind! So now my 04 reg cab is for sale and I'm looking for a Dmax. LoL (This isnt the reason Im looking for the bigger truck btw, I am making the jump to crew cab because while Im still young I wanna get this thing paid off and out of the way before a family comes ya know?)

Its not set in stone that I have to have a diesel its just I know..basiclly nothing about diesels besides I see them tow their 20ft enclosed trailers with their race cars and their 20ft campers behind that to the track and run these huge trucks fairly quick! so looking for some info on what years etc to be looking at. I found this one local, opinions? Staying under 25k is the idea

best Dmax you can get is the LBZ engine..late 2006 through 2007 models. 2001-2004 LB7 Dmax had injector issues, but are known to be a little stronger then the others. LB7's also have a fixed turbo. all others have a variable geomatry turbo. then theres the LLY 2004.5-early 2006, basically the same as a LBZ but detuned about 50hp. i know quite a bit about them. i had a 600rwhp ext. cab 4x4 dually. i was running 13.5's. i sold it after searching youtube and comming across some videos of some pretty nasty 5.3 silverados. so now my new project would be a gasser. lol any other Dmax questions let me know. i could probably help you out.

gotta watch out for the duramaxs, some of those can be fairly quick. powerchoke and cummins not so much. there will be a few where someone has 15k stuck into one and will blow the doors off you, but most will just have a tuner and exhaust.. isn't there some faster than others on here? sure there is. you prob just got unlucky and picked on the wrong person.. keep the gasser, diesels are nice but expensive to fix and cost alot to make go fast.....

I loved my my lb7 dmax but couldnt afford the problems it was causing. Very quick for $700 worth of modds (efi live dsp5 and ppe lift pump) I went 13.6 in 2wd on some crappy 28" m/t et streets. Very satisfied though. Truck already had 175k miles on it but I guess it wanted to retire after that. Injectors waterpump power steering pump tranmission and turbo all decided to crap out so I traded it off for a regular cab. If u decide to get one watch out for things like that but they are very reliable trucks if treated right.

I dont really wanna make it fast, just a nice tune, exhaust and the little things to keep it reliable.

This is what worries me. It would get modded some like yours..I cant leave anything alone. But if things are just going to go wrong like what yours did and cost 2x as much Ill look for a gasser.

06 up came with the 6 speed. If u get one with lower miles than wat mine had I think u will be fine. I have a friend who has nearly 300k on his 02 duramax with a huge efi live tune and he tows heavy equipment with it all the time. He rebuilt the trans and replaced injectors n it runs strong as ever. One the other hand if u decide to go with a gas 2500hd I would definitly recomend it. My dad has a 99 2500 with the 6.0 4l80e. It now has 340k miles and still towing big enclosed trailers every day. First motor and tranny. All he ever replaced on it was an altenator, water pump, radiator, and power steering pump.

06, late LLY and LBZ. If it has the TAP shift buttons on the shifter column, then it has the 6 speed.

EFILive DSP5 tune, exhaust and a lift pump will make a VERY nice street truck.

I've had my 07 classic Dmax for about 9 months and I LOVE it! I got great deal on it cuz the body was a little rough even though it had fresh MACCO paint and had 142K on it. My only grip is it's an Xcab and I would like a CC. I've even considered selling both my trucks and just buying a 2010 CCSB Dmax... Just make it my cruiser, DD and race truck all in one!!!

I miss the hell outta my 06 LBZ, my next truck will either be an LMM or a 6.2 truck.

Please stop. For instance, my good friend's 6.4 "Powerchoke" that has $2,000 into it, and will do a 8.0 1/8th mile consistently, with 37's. Dpf/egr delete, Spartan tune, Banks ram-air, and MBRP on it. 95,XXX miles with no problems. Better mpg than a gasser, and all. I know plenty with good luck with the Powerstrokes, and the 12V Cummins. Throw a bigger PPE tune or a serious EFI Live file onto a Duramax, and you better carry a bag with you to pick up the pieces. I'm a Chevrolet fan, but that's just my .02 cents. While you're at it, check out Dustin Dallas's Cummins running even with Foose's turbo, sprayed, 4.8 RCSB down at the Shootout. Speaking from experience here, bud.

OP, I'm sure we'll all have different opinions but I'd look out for an LB7. Luck's here and there. I'm sure my post count will affect my accredability, but I'm just trying to shield you from the .

OP, hit him up about his Duramax. He's got a nice one with plenty of upgrades. Lower miles, and all. $19,500. He knows his stuff.
