Seeking opinions between a LQ4 and 502 bbc
#1
Here's what I'm looking to do, I have a few motors and trying to decide what will be best for my 93 CCLB 3500 dually with 3.73 rear end and my 71 Nova. Truck wont be doing any hauling heavier than the Nova itself so light duty really. A short background, I bought used as I needed something cheap to replace my diesel and with some good luck it came with a Gen 6 bbc roller 502 with only a few thousand miles on it. I also have a 02 lq4 6.0. Basically just trying to decide what will be best utilized in the truck/car. Nova is basically my go-fast toy.
I'm considering using the lq4 in a carbed configuration with the trucks current 4l80e and the 502 in the nova. Basically asking if the 6.0 will be sufficient in the truck to tow that weight and still get decent mileage? (gets 12 currently) Or is there more performance potential with the lq4 and leave the truck alone?

actually decent build on either cost the same. 572 block or lsx block same price. trust me decent quality lsx stuff and big block pretty much the same price. I will build a BBC any day but if you have both items for what he is doing I would keep the 502 in the truck towing with that 6.0 aint going to be as great as the torque of the 502

I agree with everyone else who said leave the BBC in the truck and put the Gen-III in the Nova. Look at it this way, the truck is already set up to have that much weight up front AND it's already done. Fully dressed BBC is one hell of a heavy ****. A Gen-V or Gen-VI 502 block is 100% compatible with every BBC component that truck originally came with bolted to it OEM. Literally the only difference is the siamesed cylinder casting and 4.47" instead of 4.25" bore. Both 9.8" deck.
Parts-wise I'd also agree that BBC and LSX stuff costs about the same, all except for heads. That's where the BBC sticks out.
