Raylar 103 cam swap with pics
10 Attachment(s)
My dad told me his truck wasn't running right and misfiring. Didn't take me long to figure out it was the cam. I told him if he wanted me to do the swap then we are do it my way. ;)
Reason for the swap. Attachment 118244 Attachment 118245 Attachment 118246 Comp's 911 springs vs stock Attachment 118247 Attachment 118248 Crane timing chain Attachment 118249 I wanted roller rockers on the truck. I had 2 options run Raylar rockers with his custom nut and keep the stock rocker stud. Or swap to ARP conversion stud and run the Comp rockers I already had. Problem with Comp/ARP swap is the exhaust polylocks will hit the valvecovers. I solved this by having 1/4 inch cut off the exhaust locks. Also had shorten the pushrods to 8.000 and 8.900 Attachment 118250 Attachment 118251 After adjustment Attachment 118252 When I had the intake off. I pull the tube out the PVC port drill and taped it and added a check valve in case this truck went FI. Attachment 118253 Here's short vid when I was flushing the coolant system. The lope is mild and hard to hear. Raylar 103 cam idle - YouTube |

i cant wait to hear that one. |
Awesome love to see 8.1's getting some love. Very happy to see crane makes a double roller as well. Hows the low end with the 103 cam? any specs on that cam? cant seem to find them any where. Been meaning to call raylar and chat. Looking at the 103 to replace the 496 ho cam I have in there now.

Don't want to give away Raylar specs. That's Larry's job call him. Sill needs tuning. It's been along time sense I drove a stock 8.1. It did seem a little weak at low RPM but when I floored from a dead stop it spun the duals for 10 ft! Never did that before. :burnout: |

it is now the potato truck

What caused the cam lobe to eat itself in the first place? That's what I'd be trying to figure out. The guy who built my 454 just had a 6L that did the same thing, and the guides in the heads were undersized/tight on that valve.

gm has been known to have issues with soft cams. tsb's about it

ya the ho cam seems alittle soft down low but the thing will spin my 35's off the line no problem. I am interested to see how your dads truck is after its tuned
