I've had a few cams in my setup with different mods at one time or another. I have always pulled a heavy boat with it. The boat was a 27ft Fountain Fever HEAVY when fully fueled. It was pulled in the flat areas in Houston and the rolling hills area in North Texas
Some of these cams are considered "out of date"
I have always had 285s and stock 3.73 gears, 80e trans in my 3/4 ton 2500 crew cab

1. 212/218 .522 .529 -112 Stock running gear down to the intake and muffler
2. 220/220 .581 .581 -112 same as above, added 05 electric fans
3. 224/230 .581 .592 -110 +2 added headers and 4 bolt TBSS/NNBS intake, and 1-7/8 headers
4. 224/230 .581 .592 -110 +2 added L92 heads and intake
5. 232/234 .595 .598 -112 added a 3000K multi disk Circle D made the most peak, but no the greatest for towing at all, it was a light switch after 3,400. It had a huge top end. Not optimal by any means but was all kinds of fun.
This was my last setup until the truck was stolen and recovered. It out ran the police on the back roads in Cuero, Tx with 15 people inside (youtube police chase video is online)

I wouldn't expect cams 3-5 to improve towing performance. They move the power band up too much.

I would expect the #1 cam to have towed the best. I've got a 226/232 in my 6.0 and it pulls great from 3k-up.

the 224/230 cam with L92 heads pulled the best.
The 232/234 was the best by far at hauling *** and beating diesels.

i recently got a 212/218 114 low lift specifically for towing with my 2500HD...

i sold the cam and decided that the only way to get better towing is to supercharge. one day i'll run across a deal on a maggy 112.
