Default 8.1 facory tailpipe diamter?t

can anybody tell me the diameter of the single factory tailpipe for my 8.1 2005 Burb? it has the Y off the muffler into one tailpipe. truck is in the body shop for some work, and wantin to order a dual tip- so i can install the new muffler (thanks Kerr) when I get it back. i forgot to get the caliper out and measure. i think i want to try the factory y pipe into one and just add a dual outlet tip for looks.

its smaller than what you have.. if i remember correctley they are 2.3 in out side dia, then they Y into into a single 3". They do this to get more low end torque. I could tell any performance gain by going with duals out the back, as a matter of fact you feel a loss in the right off idle power. Im sure it makes more in the upper rpms though.

Some one also told me the reason these get so loud is the small single tail pipe from the axle back does something to sound waves flow or some bs.. not sure if it true or not, but for fun, the old trucks dont have them and the new truck with straighter flower exhaust have a muffler or resonator right infront of the tip.

hmmmm, so i'm wondering- maybe the dual 3" outlets y-ed into a single 4" pipe??? wonder how that might work? i know the shop will neck the 3" down to 2.5 tailpipes.

With the muffler I have on mine it is loud. This is dual 3 into a single 4 inch with a 3.5 tail pipe
