Early on ,99-00 you could get the 2500 with a 5.3L prior to the HD model. Not sure it was an option with the HD introduction in 2001 though.

I believe the one i found with a 5.3L came with a 4L60e. I will have to try and find the vin and the RPO Tag

FOUND IT!

Here is a standard 2500 regular cab long bed with a factory 5.3L/4L60E combo. This was a US market 8 lug truck. Not a Mexico Market 6 lug 2500

door emblem says 2500HD. based on the front end, i'd concur, as that hood/grille/bumper was for 2001-2002.
could be a clone, but the VIN would put all this to rest:
  • 6th digit = class (1: 1500, 2: 2500, 3: 3500)
  • 8th digit = engine (U: 6.0/LQ4, T: 5.3/LM7)
  • 10th digit = year (X: 1999, Y: 2000, 1: 2001, 2: 2002)

then there's this option... i admittedly contemplated buying an AWD Escalade to swap its LQ9 over to my GMC & replace it with the LM7 i had. then sell the Caddy on craigslist.

and i'm pretty sure GT5 uses a 10:40 gearset rather than the 9:37... making them 4.10s

Almost:

4.11 is 9 & 37
4.10 is 10 & 41
4.09 is 11 & 45

Arbitrarily similar in terms of RPMs and such; quite different in terms of tooth size (durability), noise, commonness, etc.

Can't recall ever seeing 4.09 for anything but a late 60s car 12-bolt though.
