You can actually order a dpf delete kit for pretty cheap (few hundred dollars plus install) which will increase your mileage considerably. The reason the mileage is so bad on the LMM's is the regeneration mode the truck goes into to burn off the extra soot. Without that, you should be golden. If you are worried about passing emissions (depending on how strict they are where you live), you might be better off looking for a 06-07 classic lbz. I have two friends with lbz's that are getting over 20mpg rolling on 35's.
