Default What noise is this and how bad is it?

Muffled rattling. After reading a thread about low oil pressure(which I don't have, thank you God)I read another thread about a timing chain damper and that made me think this could be my rumbling more than a rattling. Rattling sounds like I'm describing gas knocks; this is from deeper inside the motor.

Of course, it could also be bearings. I'm low to no skill so I'm waiting for the shop to reopen after new years, starting with a leakdown test. Is there a simple test to help me determine this or just sit and stew in it?

Thanks for being here guys!

Well, in case anyone's listening, I don't think it's the timing chain since I have plenty of power even with a load.

The bearings noise as described on the Internet sounds like gas ping and this sure isn't that.

I guess I'll update Friday after the shop.

Default Could it be from the torque converter?

I was talking to my neighbor about the noise and he said his TC makes ruckus some times too, and he has a stock 2012 CC Chevy.

This makes possible sense to me but I don't claim to know much anyway.

Thanks guys.

It's not pinging. I've had that before.

This is a rumbling sound from deep down, under the truck it sounds like.
As far as a clip I don't think it would be possible as I have to listen carefully to hear it; I'm probably so used to it by now.

I'm loading up Christmas this morning so I'll start the truck and give it a listen from beside and under and get back here.

Thanks again.

Alright then.

I got almost all of my work done I thought but went out and got under the truck; this isn't an easy task; there are only certain places me and the creeper can fit!

3" pipe twisting about. And laying on the second(or third)crossmember. I couldn't hear under there but I'd bet that's where my sound is coming from.

If/when I choose to get my oil consumption issue fixed I will have better exhaust installed as well.

Thanks guys.

Does it sound like metal vibrating under the truck? Is it just every now and then? Try checking your exhaust piping. Mine would occasionally rub on a frame stabilizer bar. I just put some washers on to get the bar off the exhaust.

i recall when my converter bolts were loose the sound sounded like it was coming from the lower part of the engine, i took a flashlight and a inspection mirror and found one or two backed out, the noise you have sounds like that could be the issue ( not sure ) but worth the check. i did notice when i gave the engine some RPM it would go away, by the way my flex plate was also spidered ( cracked to hell and back ) lol
