Carbd motors generally get away with more timing due to the cooler charge. From what Ive noticed anyhow, may or may not be true. Couple alcohol motors for pulling Ive worked with were locked at 40*

I have noticed the same thing. For example the MSD ignition controller that Edelbrock includes with their LS engine intake manifolds gives 36* total timing and the curve is adjustable with the included "Pills" that plug into the side of the controller. On the 5.3 that I worked with in a 4,200 lbs car with a yank 3600 stalled 700r4 and 3.73s it liked the 2nd hottest curve and ran great. Had the best 1/8 mile times and fuel economy. It had a big lumpy cam and a big Holley on top setup to pour the power enrichment fuel on pretty early. Definately tuned for go fast.
