Default Mild 5.3 truck build questions

Hey all, new to modifying trucks but not modifying cars. Looking for some advice before I proceed any further on mods.

I have a 07 Classic Sierra, its my daily but I also use it tow my race cars around. Overall goal for the truck is a fun, powerful street truck that I can tow my cars with.

Ideally I would like to run mid-low 13s.

I have the L33 5.3, 4L60E and a 3.42 rear gears. Current mods are a airaid MIT intake and 3" exhaust. Long tubes are on the way.

With that being said, I need some advice picking a cam and converter. I was thinking something along the lines of a 224/232 cam with around .550 - .590 lift with a 2800 stall converter.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

-Joe

That seem like a really big cam for just a daily driver in my eyes, might not be super friendly.

Do a 3000 stall and some 3.73's to help out alot too.

With the converter I would go tripple disc 3000. And a must is a trans cooler. I got a true cool 40k on ebey shipped for 135. That is a big cam. It will definitely sound nasty. I've been lookin. A lot of people r runnin the 224 224. Or even a 228 228 cam. I'm gonna go big when I do my cam. I'm thinkin the same cam u said. I'm not gonna pull a trailer tho. Gears will be another good mod. It's a night and day difference. I would go 3.90 or bigger tho.

I basically have the same truck but 4x4 .
I just did 410s which made it drive much better than 3.42s.
As far as a cam I would down size so power comes in sooner for your towing needs.
Something along the 210/218. 212/218. 216/224 will do much better for towing.

220/224 would be a better choice IMO. 3.90 gears would make a big difference for both towing and everyday driving. Big trans cooler and a 2800-3200 stall should work great.

what size tires?
I used to have a L33 in my truck with a TSP220 and also a patg speced cam 223-226 610-605 110+4, both cams towed just fine with a circle d 3200 and tru cool 40k.
I DD both of those cams and still DD with my current setup

I run 33x12.50R17s.

I'm actually leaning towards the 224R texas speed cam now, that with a 3000 stall I think will be a good setup. I will eventually get 4.10 gears.

Plan is upgraded trans cooler, CircleD converter, 224R cam. Along with my Longtubes, 3" exhaust and airaid MIT. 4.10s will come in time.

Where do you think that will put me in terms of power and 1/4 mile time roughly? truck is a 4x4 short bed extended cab

I have 32" street tires on my truck (275/55r20) and with 4.10s I still want more. I would go 4.30s or 4.56s with 33's and do those first before anything. The gears help out A LOT! On a 4wd extended cab truck I would think around 210-215 would be the right intake duration. You're moving a lot of weight. The 4L60 won't hold high rpm shifts for a long time as it is stock. So the further you move up in duration the higher the shift point. Just my 2 cents

Gears will come in time, not ready to spend the money to put 4.10s in front & rear yet
