Default Torque Converter Selection 700R4

I have a 91 4.3L 2wd short bed. It's getting the 700R4 trans rebuilt and I want to put a new torque converter in it. I am looking for a little more stall. I've had suggestions from friends of 2400, 2600, and 3000 rpm speeds. The truck is a daily driver and I'd like to get it off the line a little quicker and help give it a little more oomph off the line when pulling a trailer.

The 3000 rpm has me intrigued. I will retain lockup for highway cruising. Trans has a B&M shift kit with the street/strip parts.

Any suggestions and why?

Mods to the truck are catless exhaust 3" from the y-pipe back to a 40 series flowmaster that is dumped before the axle, has the CFM tech throttle body spacer, injector pod spacer, and a K&N. EGR delete. B&M shift kit. Will be putting a large trans cooler on it to keep it cool with a higher stall.

I'm going to be putting a 5.3L in the truck hopefully this summer when I have the time and I want to use the 700R4 so its one less thing to replace.

it may be a good idea to contact circle D and see what he suggests. also you may have to have a special converter made for the LS engine when you put it in the truck. the converters are different for them.

Didn't know the converters were different. I thought a 700R4 converter would work regardless since its matched to the transmission. The flexplates must have different bolt pattern or something. I want to keep my 700R4 rather than put in a 4L60E and have to wire up a computer. Trying to keep my swap simple, may even run the carb conversion so I can keep low fuel pressure and not have to worry about ECU and 9 million sensors.

at the end of the day, engine tq vs driveline resistance (weigh/gearing) determines stall speed...

you take a 3000 converter out from behind a stock 4.8 truck and put it behind a turbo'd 6L and you'll likely end up with something in the 4500 range... have it built for your final goal and be done, instead of buying it two or three times.

Your right, the 4l60e is an electric version of the 700r4. Besides the aluminum VB and changes to the case they are roughly the same. There is a difference between the converters though on pre LS series engines to LS engines, all 4l60's.
