Sorry to see that, but you certainly taught us all a lot about what these engines are capable of. I'm in for $30

Glad it didn't happen at track I was worried that you could crash, that's why I haven't ran my s480 at the track yet. If you just want a 9 sec pass and dnt plan on running it at that power all the time Id just throw in a 05 up 4.8 , or 5.3L. If planning on running 9's a lot it would be safer to go ahead and build something. Could always throw in another 4.8L and grab the 9 while building a forged engine. If you go another stocker definitely put a diper on it.

Does someone out there make a forged 4.8 rod? If so get a set of those, set of forged 4" flattop pistons, 6.0L block, and 243 or ported heads. That would be a wicked motor that'd take a ton of abuse!

I'm thinking a rod(s) got short, incomplete burn made it look lean there for a bit. Then the rod came apart as RPM went up. If detonation was going to kill his engine it would likely have been a poor tune. Something tells me Rob is a better tuner than that

First off big thanks to every one for the positive feedback. Secondly, after a lot of thought this will be the only 4.8 my truck see's. It was in there 9 years and won't have a replacement. The problem with putting a 5.3 in here is I know me and before long ill be back at 800-900HP and on the edge again. Even a lq4 and 9 start just need a bad pull or to above 900 wheel and my boat puller will be down again.

Smoke your on the same path kinda that I was. I did a compression check prior to the dyno and number 5 was the lowest, followed by number 7. 5 was at 155psi, 7 was 158, all other was 165-170. If I had to guess there was a bent rod in there. Likely a few bent rods in this motor.

I'm going to Ohio tomorrow so truck won't be getting worked on. I just bought some tool for the garage, have to get it ready for the tear down. I did inspect the turbo and it seems ok with no nicks. It did take some light aluminum though through it, you see it and some larger piece got stuck in the turbine housing luckily. Can any one confirm the oil feed above the filter is a post oil filter feed?

Also I know the TBSS intake is game over, I haven't even removed it but not worth the risk.

sucks to hear man! the parts are available to do one up forged id stick with 4.8 and go for kill! invest in an engine diaper too. i hate to always say that but dumping oil at the top end of the track could be one hell of a ride contained between two concrete walls.
btw. ill throw in $20 too

Damn that was a badass truck and will only get better. Can't wait to see where you go now. Good job with the build and you should be patting yourself on the back.

1 million dollars.. Lol.

My turbo's turbine side would be a little small with that also.
