Default AR-15's (Assault Rifles)

I'm in the market to pick one up this week. I already know Blownchevy's recomendations, but wanted to get others as well. I've done a good bit of research but want to get everyone's opinion. What make/model's do you like and why?

Do you know anything about guns in general? I think you'll find it's more enjoyable and cheaper to build one yourself. Ar-15s are like legos. You can pretty much do whatever you want. You can build them as expensive as you want or as cheap as you want. It all depends on what your budget it.

What do you guys think of these:

6721 is a 1-9 twist 16" Hbar
Colt AR15 A3 6721

6920 is a 1-7 twist 16" M4 barrel
Colt M4 Carbine 6920 AR15 16"

Whats your budget??
You know this can get out of hand worse than Goin fast?

Ive built several of them for under $550... Just your basic M4.

Colts are just way overpriced, I have a Bushmaster that i bought years ago. Sold the upper and got a DPMS LoPro Bull Barrel. Then got the itch this year and Got some DTI lowers and the Parts kits then got to work.

I own a Bushmaster xm-15 and love it, great gun and is far as off the shelf they are the best priced. Colt your paying to much for the name in my opinion, the new smith's are very nice as well but they are big bucks. you can get a Bushmaster at the gun show's for around 750$ the smith's are usually 1400$ and up. At least around me.

It all depends on what you want... there's no such thing as a cheap AR for shooting anymore unless you buy it for a converted caliber size... but I say eff that and just get a .223. They have them for 9mm up to .50 cal. My next that I'm thinking of getting might be in the AK round ( 7.62x39 ) because that ammo is still pretty cheap. I wouldn't even screw with colt honestly. For your first go with DMPS or bushmaster. Look for a flat top upper (no carry handle) so your options for any optics or even iron sights won't be hindered at all. With a flat top you can do anything you want.

my ar 10 - This is more set up for long range - chambered in .308

one of my ar15s - cqb setup - .223

They're a lot of fun to own and build... but with the political climate right now who knows what's going to happen. Buy 'em while you still can!

Post up that comparison pic you found Holty. IMO it explains why Colt is so overpriced. However this thread is still agreat example of why a sales sheet for comparisons don't always matter. I think if you could ask most, I bet the Bushmaster would win.

Here why Holty wants one...he shot my Armalite AR-10 and I have an old version Colt AR-15.
