Default Rearend choices??

Hey Guys,
I've got the stock G80 in my truck right now and I wanna upgrade, but I wanna keep a locker in it. Whats the best locker out there??? My truck is a 2006 GMC Sierra rcsb 2wd 5.3L w/ 4L60E. It's a 10 bolt. I also want to find a new set of 3.23 gears or step up to a new set of 3.42 gears. Where are the best place to get gears? Thanks Everyone!

well you dont have a locker now, that is a limited slip differential (LSD)
I would recomend an eaton LSD or a detroit true trac, both of these units are great!
As for as gear ratios go your current 3.23's will work so why buy new ones unless you want a different ratio. If you are going for gas mileage stay where you are at. If going for performance upgrade to a 3.73 , 3.90 or 4.10 ratio.
Motive AAM and Yukon are your best brands for gears.

most people here run the eaton lsd like myself and others have good sucess with the detroit true trac.
what gears do you currently have in the truck? 3.23's?
if so the swap to 3.42's won't make any difference and will be the same.
you might want to look into a set of 3.73's or 4.10's.

Between the eaton and detroit which one is the stronger unit?? The reason I was wondering about taking the gears out but keeping the same ratio was i was wondering if there are a stronger set of gears out there in 3.23???

with 323s your truck is a total dog to be honest with you. my 5.3 before seen 20mpg in my area with the stock 373. i went with 410s with my 6.0 and seen 18mpg with 20s on....its in the tune for MPG....also remember there is a happy median in rpm range to get best mpg

and the G80 in the trucks was referred to as a Locking diff...not a limited slip. the G80 in the trucks as some of you know already uses a weighted arm/bar to lock bot sides together when torque is applied. and in some cases the trucks rear can stay locked untill you back up and unlock it again. my rear used to stay locked alot of times especially in tight turns

a limited slip doesnt lock as one of these do

Stock gears are the stongest, if set up to factory tolerences. As far as which unit is stonger its a toss up, both of these units have been behind high HP applications without failing.

The reason I want to stay with 3.23's is because with my current setup (5.3L Z-code, 4l60E, 3.23's) I'm knocking down 24mpg when I drive like a realitivly sane person.

3.23's and performance really do not mix so you must be going on a MPG fuel economy standpoint, if this is the case just keep what you have.
