Post Trailblazer SS 4wd vs 2wd

I'm in the market for a TBSS. I'm pretty familiar with the LSX family, but new to the performance truck thing. I'd like to get some input from people that actually have SS's.

Trailblazer will be used for transport and 1/8th track outings 2-3 times a month.

Is the additional traction provied by the 4WD justified by the weight/cost?
(I figure since I'll only be going to slippery 1/8th tracks, it might make a difference.)
Does the 4L70E have aftermarket support like the 4L60E/65E/80E's? Are they interchangeable with any of them?

Thanks, Chris

I tried to search, but I'm sure there's a lot of threads missing from the LS1TECH move.

My truck hooks pretty well, even with what I consider to be relatively narrow tires (255mm width), so there's no need for AWD (it's actually AWD, not 4WD).

The 4L70E is an updated/upgraded 4L65E, so the behavior as well as the programming should be very similar if not identical. I've heard the only significant upgrades are the sun shell and input shaft.

Are you in San Diego? They have 3 TBSS at Jimmy Johnson Chevy in Clairemont (white, black, silver), I was just there this morning.

Small world. I was just there @ Jimmie Johnson today picking up some parts. I did notice that the white TBSS in the showroom has a loose bolt for the alternator bracket. Check it out next time you're there. I was going to save it for a "WTF!!!!" type of price reduction during bargaining. Feel free to bring it up to those guys, if I don't.

I guess you know which crappy 1/8th track I'm talking about. Ever since Carlsbad closed down, Qualcomm is the only place to go.

Thinking about starting a family, and the Vette doesn't have a back seat, so it might have to go. I figure I'd get the SS and call it even.

Back on subject, so does the 70E share internals with the 65E? I mean, trying to launch a modded 5000lb. SUV could get ugly.

Well, my 2WD TBSS weighed in at 4680 with about a half tank of gas. Over 1,000 lbs less than my Avalanche. I agree about the 4L60/65/70E and all of its shortcomings, this vehicle should have the 6L80E. Actually, all GM trucks should have that tranny. But it looks like they made it about as good as they could, and I'll trust them on that. Besides, I have a warranty!
