Does anyone know the history of EGR in 99+ V8 trucks. What engines, models, and years have EGR? Which ones don't?

I know that 99 had EGR and 2003 does not have EGR. What happened in the middle and when? Does anybody know if anything internal in the motor changed to help eliminate EGR or did GM spend a little more money on catalyst to help clean it up?

Any help or information would be appreciated. I haven't been able to find any information on this subject.

Sorry I can't help you any more but the 2002 5.3L doesn't have one either

 

I think there is no egr starting in 2001, and the way they were able to rid themsleves of it had something to do with the revised camshaft that was introduced in 2001 I beleive........I'll have to do some checking, but I beleive this to be 90% correct............

 

That is correct. When chevy changed to the genIII motors, they still hadnt gotten rid of everything that they wanted to. They still had the egr and some models stilll had the A.I.R. pump on them. But like you said, when they bumped up the numbers in 2001, they had changed the camshaft, and not only bumped up the power numbers, they were also able to get rid of the egr system.

I have a 2001 GMC 1500 California truck and it has EGR and AIR but I worked on a 2000 silverado 1500 49 state truck that did not have EGR. I think California had it a couple of years longer.

Interesting....According to the GM service parts computer, EGR was on all 4.8/5.3/6.0 trucks from 1999-2002 model year. Camshafts carry the same part number 4.8/5.3 from 1999-2005 and 6.0L 1999-2005. I don't hold the GM parts computer as bible but the comment about California and 49 state trucks is something I'm going to look into next. Thanks for all the information.

 

most trucks here in texas i've seen have egr from 99-01, 02 and up dont. my 01 did have it.

 

The cams must supercede I guess...99 4.8-5.3's had a different cam than 00 (or maybe 01) and up. I believe the lsa changed from 115 to 114 for the newer ones.
