I have heard people say ext cab drop coil springs can't be used on the reg cab and viceversa. Anybody know if this is true. I have both an ext cab and a reg cab and see no difference in the front suspension.

View Full Version : Is there is difference between ext cab and reg cab drop coils? FILE 12-24-2004, 11:15 PM I have heard people say ext cab drop coil springs can't be used on the reg cab and viceversa. Anybody know if this is true. Nine Ball 12-24-2004, 11:18 PM Check some spring manufacturers and see if they have different part numbers listed for std cab vs ex-cab. That would tell you immediately. I would think the spring rates would be stiffer on an ex-cab since it they have to support more weight up front due to the additional cab length. XLR8NSS 12-24-2004, 11:19 PM The spring rates are different for the exact reason Tony mentioned. BlownChevy 12-24-2004, 11:52 PM I know I got the same front springs in my truck as my buddy has in his RCSB. I hope they did not screw me! XLR8NSS 12-24-2004, 11:53 PM I know I got the same front springs in my truck as my buddy has in his RCSB. I hope they did not screw me! Maybe they're the same but, most places list two different kits for a reg or ext cab. Maybe the front coils are the same  BlownChevy 12-25-2004, 12:14 AM Maybe they're the same but, most places list two different kits for a reg or ext cab. Maybe the front coils are the same  Dont know, but I will be following up with Bell Tech on Monday. ZYA_LTR 12-25-2004, 01:26 AM Maybe a slight difference in spring rates? I heard that the excab only adds like 400 lbs, and since the weight is in the middle of the truck it pretty much dispurses it across the whole frame, 200 front, 200 rear. So unless they were to start making heavyset ol lady springs to compensate for heavy dates, i think the springs should interchange with little to no difference in ride height and ride quality. one92rs 12-25-2004, 06:21 AM i thought that the hotchkis set up was the same spring but it to drops different rates as well. i think reg cabs get two inches and ext cabs get three/ FILE 12-25-2004, 10:43 AM i thought that the hotchkis set up was the same spring but it to drops different rates as well. i think reg cabs get two inches and ext cabs get three/This was my understanding. 02chevyracing 12-27-2004, 01:23 AM i have belltech extended cab 3" and it dropped my truck 2" reg cab no problems i tried it out because i got a really good deal on them almost free LS1csherm 12-28-2004, 04:08 PM If you check almost every spring manufacturers They make 1 spring... Example Reg cab springs drop 2 inches Ext cab Springs drop 2.25 to 2.5 inches The aftermarket springs are interchangeable I have 2 sets of springs currently - Aftermarket manufact dont want to make 2 different sets of springs Increases costs and overhead If you note below Same spring - slightly different drop http://www.hotchkis.net/cgi-bin/EDCstore.pl?user_action=detail&catalogno=1910F If you check gm - the part numbers for RC and EC springs are different because of the different spring rate You can interchange springs The springs in 03 EC are the same as a RC ZYA_LTR 12-29-2004, 01:35 PM That's what i thought. Sweet. smiths_3 01-01-2005, 04:13 PM So if I purchased 2" DJM drop coils for an ext. cab, they would drop my regular cab about 1.25" to 1.5"? ZYA_LTR 01-01-2005, 08:24 PM In theory, if they have 2 different spring offerings for EC and RC |
