Default speed grille is rusting

it is only a few weeks old. i got the brushed finish instead of the stainless. it is rusting. do i need to wax it? i thought i read in the directions about applying wax. there is salt already on the roads here, is that accelerating the rusting process?

hate to hear that man, i'd try and stay away from the salt as much as possible. i dunno if you've cut the factory grill out, but if you havn't, i'd put the grill back to stock for the winter. and for the grill, i'm sure there's plenty o products on the market to take away and keep away the rust, saw some at wal-mart the other day but dunno if it's worth the money. i'd make it all pretty again, sell it, and go with a stainless grill the second time around, just my p.o.v.

Rusting? I thought they were made from expanded aluminum? I've had Speedgrilles for 3 years and absolutely no problems.

Salt isn't the cause of rusting but it will help the process. Salt will do a number on magnesium though. The reason salt causes a car to rust in the winter is because it allows the ice to stay in liquid state and "trapped" in all the nooks and crannies of your exterior. That's why it's BAD to drive a car in the winter through all the slop and salt and then park it in a nice warm garage.

they salt the roads pretty good here in the winter. weird thing though, i just got in from looking at it, and the lower grille is rusting but not top one. plus it is rusting in the back and not in the front. it is only a few weeks old.
