v6-v8 swap? CARB?
Hello All,
So i bought an 07 V6 classic for cheap with the intentions of swapping in a V8. So far I found an abudance of engines on craigslist, and ebay for reasonable prices. My question is, will the state referee make a big deal if I put in a V8 that came out of a 05-06 truck? |
As far as I know yes, it's been a few years since I referred to the law book but it once claimed that the replacement engine needed to be of the same year or newer than the registration year of the vehicle, and must have all smog equipment applicable to the year of the engine.... best bet is to ask a smog ref. And if he says it's ok, be sure to smog check with the same guy.

How's he gonna know? Everything looks the exact same 05-07

As long as all of the 2007 V8 Emissions equipment is on the truck and working you shouldn't have a problem.

I called a buddy of mine who's been a ASE master tech for 30 years.. He said all these trucks are pretty much the same, and not to bother going to the state ref. He just mentioned getting an engine off an 05-07c since there were some changes. And also a air box lid that has all the emissions stuff on the label.

This is not "legal" by any means period. While you may pull the wool over a few peoples eyes, the road side smog testers will get ya.

Your VIN will show up as a 6 Cyl. Throw in the engine, make sure you have all the 07 stuff, The Refs will give you a plate that tells you your swap is legal, and how to smog it and you should be good. It's my understanding they will try to help you if everything looks clean and you aren't trying to BS them or throw in some crazy engine that you shouldn't have in there. Once you get that plate, no one will hassle you.

Thing is finding an 07c engine is a biotch! 05-06 engines are way more common.
