Default Calling all Utah pt.net folks!!

I will be getting out of the marine corps in the next few months and relocating to Utah, staying at my buddy's house in salt lake county til I can start school in lehi after which I'll move to Utah county. My question is this: what kind of smog testing is involved ie tailpipe, obd, visual? Is it easy to pass? I know about the dates for these, I am curious to know how easy or difficult it is to pass with a modified vehicle? My truck passed just fine in California, but I will be adding Cali legal thorley tri y's when I get back from Okinawa and am also curious about how my 88 Scottsdale would pass with a vortec long block wth tbi and egr.... That will be moved out to Utah once I have a stable job in a few years. Thank you for the help/advice

For your 2001, i think they just plug into the OBD-II port to check for DTC's and that all readiness tests have set. And a visual for cats present.
Not sure for your 88.

More or less, yes.
They have been having a hard on recently for diesels that have the DPF and such removed.
Too many "Bro" types rolling coal from every stop light. Easy to do here, considering the elevation.

I hate those bro types... Can you pay a tech to "pass" you? Do the cats have to be in te stock location or can you just have cats in general like the dynatech system?

I have utah plates on my truck since emissions are so lenient. But my truck is registered in southern utah. If you have a hard time passing up north, you can always try to find a southern address to register your truck with. All they do is a "visual" inspection. The place I usually take it doesn't even look at it. I know that doesn't really help you if you are up north but if it comes down to it, you have that option.

When I get out of my vocational school I'll consider a place outside of the salt lake area. But business will be better closer to I80 and I15
