Default remington 700 6mm a longrange option?

I've been eyeballing the Ruger RPC 6.5 creedmoor for nearly a year now. I cant find one. My dad evicted some of my long guns from his safe over the weekend to make more room for his Hillary apocalypse collection LOL. He brought a few guns i didn't expect. one of them was the gun I shot my first deer with when i was about 7. A Remington model 700 ADL 6mm with a leupold vari-x-III 3.5x10. i havent seen that gun in about 20 years and wasnt sure it was around anymore. he trades and flips **** 24/7. i do remember the gun being a drill, and about once per year he would brag about that particular gun's accuracy (along with my 22-250 that he didnt bring lol)

anyways, it's in my safe now and i was quickly curious about the potential. after looking at barrels and chassis systems, i see even more value in the RPC! holy hell long range is expensive

long story short; is this gun worth messing with? being honest with myself, i will never shoot paper over about 800 yds. should i modify this one, or wait for a RPC 6.5?

The 6mm Remington is just fine for long range depending on the twist rate. I remember seeing a few that had very slow twists and wouldn't stabilize the heavy Berger's.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1:9 twist. I guess I should call Remington with the serial to find out for sure since the rifle is probably 25 years old.

The 6mm was supposed to surpass the 243 but never cought traction. Being a 700 (a classic 700 because they dont build them as good as they used to) it could easily be rebarreled and modified to a 6.5 if that is what you are set on. Look up nine gun run of FB, a very well priced gunsmith.
Personnaly, you said it yourself, the 6mm has history, id keep it as is and talk to the above and go full custom whatever cal you want and once you get it together it isnt as high priced as youd think.
Like to see a pic of it.
If it can do this....well paper isnt a problem.

Nothing wrong with a 6mm. It all depends on how far your looking to shoot and what your shooting at, paper or animal. One nice thing about the 6 is that just about every place and small town will have ammo for it just in case you need some. Other guns they may not have them. Also some rounds are impossible to find. Are you planning on reloading?

I got a few long guns but all are hard to get ammo for so I started reloading.

7mm STW. - impossible to find ammo for. Can't even get brass anymore so you have to neck down 8mm brass

338 lapua,- can find it at big stores like cabelas but super expensive there

260 for my wife- it basically a 308 neckless down to the 6.5 caliber. You can find them in a few big stores and there not too bad priced

Leave the 6mm as is.....you said it's the gun you shot your first deer with so keep it the way it is. Wait and get yourself the rpc....they are awesome. I have it in .308 and 6.5cm and it's an absolute tack driver.

Default 300 Win Mag

I have a Rem 700 in 300 win mag, i bought it in
1967 to do some long range hunting in the Colo
mountains with my brother. I have updated it
over the years with a few better parts. Trigger.
SS barrel, converted it to a magazine feed.
also a muzzle brake, after market stock.
bi-pod, good/bigass scope.
