Default New gun for me :)

Figured some of you might appreciate this one. They aren't super rare but I hadn't seen one in person so I snatched it up. Anyways, found a decent condition Ruger .44 mag carbine first gen with the tubular magazine (4+1 or 5+1 don't recall). Picked it up for a great price and plan on hurtin the hog population in Florida with it. Pic below isn't mine but same gun so you get the idea, mine is in pieces right now gettin a good cleanin.

My last hog, 105 pounder, bout a 40 yard head shot with a .223

Nice gun. I also live in FL. One of my friends and I were going to start hog hunting. Do you recommend a .223/ 5.56 or should I go bigger?

If you have a bigger caliber available, I would use that instead. I've used .223 but prefer a larger caliber. When I did use .223 I would only go for head shots because I've heard stories of .223 not putting hogs down with a good body shot. I would hate to wound the animal and have it run away and die later or come at you, these f***ers can be mean. Most the guys I hunt with use 30-30, .308, or 30-06 which have no problem taking down a hog. In Florida you can hunt hog year round on private property so get in good with a person that owns some land!

I'm the opposite. shoot them far back so they run off to die and you don't have to drag them off.

A .223 would be fine for this kind of hog hunting.

While I do enjoy the actual hunt, I also use the animal and don't kill just to kill. Not criticizing either of you but that video to me is ******* retarded. I understand they are an invasive/non-native species but at least keep or donate the meat. Killing animals just to kill animals is not a good thing. Just my .02 cents.
