Arrow What to do about a tune for my engine swap?

I'm swapping a 5.3 into my 2000 Blazer. The engine will be stock other than a BTR LS1 stage 2 cam, does anyone know if it will run with the stock tune and can I safely drive it? I have access to HPTuners so I can unlock the pcm and upload a stock tune to it or what should I do? I plan to have it dyno tuned once all the kinks are worked out of it so this would just be temporary.

Yeah, it'll idle and putt around just fine with a stock tune. It might struggle a tiny bit with things like hot start or stumble some but so long as you don't floor it, it'll start up and run.

You just have to make sure you have your ducks in a row when you do get it running to prevent other issues. Like zero vacuum leaks, zero exhaust leaks, good primary o2 sensor, clean MAF sensor, proper fuel pressure of 58psi.

Of course the computer needs to have VATS disabled before it will start. While you are there you can disabled all the DTC codes for things you aren't running, like cat codes, evap codes, egr codes, ac system codes, rear o2 sensor codes or whatever else you aren't using.

I may suggest you get yourself some slightly larger fuel injectors too, stock 25lb/hr injectors don't go very far with modded engines. Bumping to some 31lb/hr injectors would be a safe bet to ensure you have fuel when you get to that point. They could be installed when it gets dyno tuned.
