And I have a 1999 PCM. Now that I saw the VIN on my vehicle specific 1999 Silverado details, I see that there is a VIN on the spare 1999 PCM.
So hopefully the PCM at the junkyard has the VIN on its tag.
I didn't know all that 10 minutes ago

It died again today and the gear indicator was operating normally.

My vote is still bad PCM.

Oscilloscope would be ideal for this scenario though.

Dang. I hate those types of intermittent problems....I joke with my brother that these types of problems requires a palm reader, a priest and a mechanic to get resolved.

i guess for the time being, nevermind the NSS then. 🙄

I need to go back and write down what are the symptoms, what is known and what is suspected.

I appreciate that you always have some kind of answer, but they are so often half answers. I have an oscilloscope, what should I do with it? Replace the PCM with an oscilloscope?

LOL.

How many channels on the scope? Can you record on it? I'm trying to think what channels you should hook up to. 🤔

Crank signal to start? The thing is, you need to watching it when it dies, and it seems so random.

I would do main power to the PCM first to see if it is randomly shutting off.

I don’t know all the pinouts but any PCM power would be my first thought. Perhaps fueling? Battery grounds or any grounds AT the ground.
