Default radio intermittent power

i could use some help from folks who know the GMT800 (1999 sierra 1500) electrical system, please.

i got a cam swap done by a shop 3hr away at the end of March, and ever since then, the radio will randomly cut out - head unit shuts off & powers itself back on a few seconds later. i noticed it tends to do this more often than not during shaking movements (bumps, bounces, etc. while driving. sitting still is fine).

i don't think it's the head unit itself because my fog lights're drawing from that same radio power circuit, and they also cut out in the same manner.

the funny thing about it is that, even with multiple resets in a row, it don't dump the memory (station presets, eq, clock, etc) like it does when i disconnect the battery. it comes back up just like it was before like it's had power the whole time.

any ideas on what/where to check?

Pinched or loose, burnt ground cable on the firewall maybe? There should be a small ground strap from the firewall, driver's side to the block.

yeah, i checked that one, the one next to it (connected to the hood light), and the one down on the frame rail. all tight. battery cables & connections through both ends of both cables seem fine. pulled the radio out & the wiring looked normal - no weird kinks, chafed jackets, loose wire nuts, etc.

i did notice that the braided ground strap behind the driver's side head was awful close to the braided fuel lines i used to connect the fuel rails to the old 4.3 lines coming up the firewall. i'll put a piece of cardboard or something in there to make sure it ain't wiggling around & touching... thoughts on that being the culprit?

Run a new ground wire to the radio and see if problem persists.

Aftermarket radios require you to run a new remote turn on wire. Usually tapped into the drivers side fuse block. I had a similar issue with mine, the tap was loose. Check yours.
