Default Question about Hypertec PPIII & Other Mods

HI, Im new to this forum but i have actually been reading it for a lil while now and I finally decided to join.

I have a 2001 Ex Cab Silverado 4.8L. I purchased it a couple of years ago and am just getting around to fixing it up.

When I bought it, it already had a cat-back exhaust (flowmasters), and shortly after I added the K&N Cold air filter kit.

Im not too machanicly inclined but my step-father is a mechanic and is going to be helping me with some mods...

I purchased the Hypertech tuner from summit racing because right now it comes with a free 180 degree thermo...

Is there anything we need to know to get started once I get it in the mail, or is it pretty self-explainitory?

Any help from you would be appreciated....

Also, what mods should come next after the programmer?

This is my daily driver so I also want to keep gas mileage into consideration seeing how I drive about 70 miles a day.

well you should have gotten a Custom tune, but oh well tha hyertech is ok too.

When I had mine the optimal settings for me were:

rev limit:6200
1-2:+5
2-3:+10
increase tranny firmness
speed limit to 128

next mods?

-shift kit
-vette servo
- Long Tube headers

I dont know how much further you want to go with the truck but thats a good start!

oh and welcome to the forum!

So What does it do if you dont adjust these? Is there no tune at all then?

ya pretty much.

The hyper tech does add thier "tuning" into it but for you to notice any difference, which would probably only be at WOT, you will have to chose those settings, other wise it is just an expensive code scanner IMO

Another thing you could do that woulndt cost much is too cut that Flowmaster off and replace it with a better flowing muffler, like magnaflow, aerochamber, spintech, or dynomax bullet.
