P1661 code...WTF?
 

I just bought a 97 SS, thats right, an LT1. Its throwing a P1661 (Malfunction Indicator Lamp Fault). Does anyone know what this code means and more importantly, what causes it? I have never seen this code on my other LT1 or the three LS powered vehicles that I have owned. I'm stumped, any help will be great.

basically its a warning sign that you bought an LT1 and its a piece!! I've never heard of that code... good luck bro!

Ouch. Thats rough. These things are just as good as LS1's (almost). I just like them, can't justify why.

they are in no way as good as an LS1... HOWEVER, they are good motors for sure. I was just giving you a hard time bro...

does it have a 3rd brake light . . .?

yes it does, what effect would te 3rd light have on the MIL lamp?

well if the light is burned out . . . it kills the ABS . . . why I have no idea. My brother had a 96, and when the 3rd tail light would go out . . . that would happen.

And killing the ABS will cause a MIL FAULT code? That makes no sense, but its something to look at. Thanks.

is the light on? cause it sound like a code that would say the light is out.

Its a P code, Powertrain.. How does a powertrain code relate to the 3rd brake light???
