Nelson vs. Texas speed

I heard plenty of good about nelson, but a guy from around my area who builds corvettes says Texas speed and performance is a better tune. Me personally, well I don't know my a** from a hole in the ground, but what are your opinions?

you have many choices. Look to the right and call a few of our sponsors and make your own opinion. Wheatly, BlackBear, Nelson, TSP....everyone has their favorite.

chevrolade 11-02-2009 09:24 AM

Nelson tune here,,i got a forced induction mail tune from nelson, and it was perfect on the a/f ratio.not too many will do a f/i tune.the guy knows his shet....good luck on your choice.

TXsilverado 11-02-2009 09:31 AM

ive had nelson tune my truck, and im currently with wheatley. I have no experience with anyone else but i can tell you that you cannot go wrong with either of these sponsors. call both of them up and decide for yourself.

outlawz2004 11-02-2009 11:13 AM

any competant tuner should be able to handle it regardless of the name. You may find a local that does great tunes, but isn't well known.

stranger ranger 11-02-2009 12:08 PM

I'm probably gonna go with nelson or texas speed. anyone recommend keeping their stock pcm or give it up?

NGA PLZ 11-02-2009 12:30 PM

keep it if you still have a warranty

Haven't heard that name in awhile, used to be good, but as far as I know they don't have near the experience as the above listed tuners.

DBYRD 11-02-2009 03:03 PM

i use wheatley, tho honestly i wouldnt stick with just those 2 u listed for the reasons others have listed. ur likely to get the same gains depending on what ur doing from a local tuner who can look at what ur truck is doing whereas a mail order tune will always be more conservative. not saying just anyone would be my choice but maybe someone thats closer thats reputable would be ur best choice...

Maybe like 4 years ago, but I don't hear much about them at all anymore. I wouldn't get one of their tunes for $100. Not that they're bad at tuning, but like you said, they aren't easy to work with.

DLH2006 11-02-2009 04:29 PM

If your only two choices are Nelson and TSP go with Nelson... Believe ME!!! if in doubt PM Truckshop and ask him what he thinks about TSP tunes.

tarinitup 11-02-2009 05:19 PM

I have had both TXspeed and Nelson Performance tuning. The Nelson mail order tune netted more power and better drivability that the TXSpeed tune dyno tune.

nah, westers knows his shit. last i heard, he was tuning chevy, ford, dodge, gasoline, diesel, import, rotary. he does it all.

gtosilverado 11-02-2009 06:47 PM

between those 2, Nelson of course... great tuner that has more experience with trucks

stranger ranger 11-03-2009 09:08 PM

anyway i can do the crank relearn without having to take it to a dealer?

Black'Rado 11-03-2009 09:11 PM

SLO TRUCK 11-06-2009 11:36 PM

Nelson FTW. Handles all my tuning and has never let me down.

slowrollin93 11-10-2009 12:35 PM

I have ran both tsp and neslson's tunes on my current set up. To be honest it seemed like neslsons tune made more power all around but for some reason the TSP tune was f'n nuts above 5500 rpms vs neslon's was a steady pull the entire band. If it was me I would lean twards TSP just because they seem easier to get a hold of at times and you can't beat the price they have.

TX Tahoe Z71 11-10-2009 01:03 PM

Had a wait4me tune first, that resulted in burned up clutches and a rebuilt transmission. Went with Wheatley next and couldn't be happier, night and day difference over the wait4me tune. Wheatley is a top notch guy and a top notch tuner. Also went from 12/16 mpg to 15/21 mpg with just the tune, and felt like I picked up 25rwhp too.

Slimsilverado 11-10-2009 02:37 PM

NELSON TUNED here. Great customer service....

cwalker2006 01-15-2010 06:00 PM

NELSON!!! Ive had a tsp dyno tune and i thought it was alright until my friend tuned my truck and it was alot better all around!!

brobradh77 01-15-2010 07:05 PM

IMO Blackbear,Wheatley, or Zippy FTW....

Lydon has been tuning for well over a decade starting with LS1 Edit software with proven results. A very knowledgeable guy if you get the chance to speak to him.

There are many good tuners out there, shop around, weigh your options and enjoy the purchase!
