ISO reputable “street” tuner in SoCal or mail order tune
Like the title says, looking for a reputable street tuner in so cal.
Possible mail order.
I’m doing a 5.3 to LY6 swap in my 2007.5 CCSB 2wd Silverado 1500
w/flat top pistons,
tsp custom grind 216/220 .600/.600 114 LSA cam,
243 heads,
TSP dual valve springs,
LS7 lifters,
7.4 chromoly pushrods,
ls3 rockers,
ls2 timing chain,
solid tensioner.
I’m planning only running 91 fuel..best we have in San Diego.
Trans really doesn’t really need to be retuned, but it’s a built 4l65 trans, 2600 stall and 3:73 gears.
Mail order tuning is not out of the question since this is pretty basic.
No rush either, as I just ordered the short block from Thompson Motorsports a few weeks ago.. if all goes as planned I should have the engine together and back in the truck Mid August.
Justin at Blackbear did the original street tune with the 5.3 and I had an awesome experience which is why I’m more interested in doing something in person in real time.
I’ve heard he’s no longer in SoCal. Hard to get back in touch with him after the fact.
Please let me know if you guys have any suggestions as well.
I was also really disappointed in the cam when it was in the 5.3, suggestions for something with more low end would be appreciated as well if it’s compatible with my other mods. This would be the time to do it.
I still need to pick a head gasket/thickness but my c/r should be 11:1 according to Thompson Motorsports.
Thanks guys!

100% Redneck
If you decide to go mail order... I've heard good things about Steve Williams "Tuned by Frost" out of VA. Just got my PCM back from him and should be up and running at the end of the week. Turn around was quick and the price for internal mods like your build is $200 + $16 return shipping.

You will lose a little up top but it’s worth it IMO.

Won’t the 110 have more “chop” to it? I asked TSP for something smooth b/c it’s my daily driver and they recommended the 114. That’s the only reason why I mention it.
I’m more concerned with my wife complaining about a “ shaky” as she calls it cam than losing power up top in the heavy crew cab.hah
Thank you for the recommendation as well RedXRay, I’ll look into them. They sound very reasonable.

Look into Atomic Fab. & Perf. He does tuning as well. Can get you squared away in a day or so depending on his work load. Plus his customer service is bar none!!!! Hands down stand out guy!
He can even help you spec out a heads/cam combo.
Shoot him a PM

I'll explain,
Take the TSP as-is:
216/220 @ 114
This cam has -10 degrees overlap.
Take the same cam, and change the LSA to 110.
216/220 @ 110
The cam now has -2 degrees overlap.
The change is minimal. You can also massage the idle overspeed/underspeed tables to further smooth (or increase) the chop.

I just realized I made a typo on my cam specs, it’s a 216/226 .600/.600 114lsa
Not sure much much difference that makes.
Now (maybe irrelevant) will my short block’s new displacement of 6.0 vs previous 5.3 effect when the power comes on?
Or will my LSA of 114 going to be the issue no matter what?
The truck actually felt slower with the new cam in the 5.3 even with a 2600 stall.
