Default HPtuners question

Where can I get Hptuners, not finding it on the net besides the hptuners website. Would this be a good program for a kid just starting out in custom tunes? I have had the handhelds and want to get into something that I can adjust on my own page for what im doing with my truck. Im from Ak so I am not close to a custom tune like Nelson Performance to get a in house tune everytime I change something on the truck.

Will HPTuners allow me to tune for ported/polished TB with LT headers and ORY and other basic bolt ons like that? These are my latest mods that are going on the truck. I guess what my question is, is how hard will it be for me to start out with tuning the truck? I am looking at some of the links posted for HPtuners walkthroughs right now.

HPTuners, new that is, can only be purchased directly through them.

The software, although very overwhelming at first is very userfriendly (there is a option that hides more advanced options until you get wet behind the ears)

I started out with zero tuning experience when i got mine and i know a lot more that i thought i'd ever would. And through that knowledge is what unlocks the potential of the software. Once you know the tricks, it can do anything for you. Tune for LT's, no problem. PnP'ed throttle body, no problem!

I'd say go for it, in the long run you will defiently be glad you did.

Also something to note, Nelson Performance uses HPTuners for their tuning

So it will let me do the basic stuff at first like higher shift points, different tire sizes, rev limiters etc...? How does the credit system thing work? I can buy the program and have unlimited tunes on it right?

Yep, it will let you do everything thats humanly possibly regard your transmission, speedometer, and rev limits

And of course you HAD to ask about the credits... Think of it this way, you buy the MPVI cable, and you get 8 credits included. Credits allow you to use your cable as you see fit, as a weekend tuner, you might just buy a handful and use the single vehicle licencing (which uses credits per VIN) or buy a whole model year licence. More than likely i'd say its in your better interest just to do a single vehicle licence on your silverado, leaving additional credits free for future addons or vehicles.

Oh and if you do get a HPTuner, buy the MPVI Pro first even if you dont plan on tuning with a wideband now you might in the future. And the cost of upgrading from standard to pro sucks. I learned that the hardway but got luckly as i had the old serial interface.

Yep once you use all of the 8 credits that is given to you with a new interface purchase, obviously you then buy new ones.

1 Credit doesnt equal 1 vehicle... I know, its not that clear...

***Excerpt from HPT's Order Page***

GM V8 Gen III Trucks

Years
Avail. Model Type Single Vehicle
Credits Year/Model
Credits (Per Year)
02-06 Chevy Avalanche 5.3, 8.1 (4L60E, 4L80E) 2 6
99-06 Chevy Silverado / GMC Sierra 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 8.1 (4L60E, 4L65E, 4L80E) 2 6
00-06 Chevy Tahoe 4.8, 5.3 2 6
00-06 Chevy Suburban / GMC Yukon & Denali 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 8.1 (4L60E, 4L80E) 2 6
01-06 Chevy Express / GMC Savana 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 8.1 (4L60E, 4L80E)
2 6
04 GMC Envoy 5.3 (4L60E, 4L80E) 2 6
04 Buick Rainier 5.3 2 6
02-06 Cadillac Escalade 5.3, 6.0 2 6
03-06 Hummer H2 6.0 2 6
01-05 Workhorse 5.7, 8.1 2 6
Sorry its not very clear to read, but the last 2 numbers on each row is the credit requirement for a single vehicle, then the credit requirement for a model year.

IE, if you want to tune your current truck and just your truck (note VIN locked so if you ever change your PCM you will run into trouble) would cost just 2 credits, however if you wanted to tune all 2001 Silverados/Sierras that would cost you 6 credits and wouldnt care what VIN it was tuning as long as it was a 2001 GM Fullsize pickup. Its all listed in detail at http://www.hptuners.com/order.php
