Help with tuning shift points..
 

Sup guys, I'm pretty new here, also pretty new to the whole handheld tuner/programmer deal. I have a 2005 silverado single cab, sport side, 4.8 with a spectre intake and a dynomax single in dual out muffler.

I recently purchased a diablosport predator for pretty cheap, I'd like to know some shift point settings that would improve acceleration or speed, this thing is good 1st and 2nd, yet 3rd it just falls on it's face.

3rd is usually when the converter is goin to lock and just not much power from the lil stock 4.8.

its been years since i played with one them programmers but look for anything having to do with TCC or Torque converter clutch.

You have 3.42 or 3.73?

there isn't any real proven shift points. It depends on your driving style, but everyone around here increases the line pressure close to 90 to increase shift speed as well as make the tranny shift at close to 6300 rpm or so for every gear. So yea, does your truck have a tow haul option? there is a performance table when you depress the button so keep that in mind when you open your handheld next time

Removing torque managament is the biggest gain :lol:

im not sure what my gearing is I bought the truck second hand. Is there a way to find out? and lol noob question but would that break anything?

i recommend having it ONLY when racing. Depending on your settings, the tow/haul mode would be too rough on your tranny for everyday driving and besdies sucks driving around with a transmission that shifts too abrupt when creeping.

You can post up your tire size and RPMs at 70mph on a GPS and i can tell ya.

to find out your gear ratio, put the rear end up on stands with the front wheels chocked. Put the key in run position with engine off, shift into neutral and see how many turns of the driveshaft it takes for the tires to spin 1 full rotation, and there you go. Keep in mind that doing this with an open diff will cause a result of 1/2 the gear ratio youre expecting, so just multiply by 2 :)
