I am considering getting EFI but I am having problems convincing myself. From the research I am doing it seems I am going to need a wideband to be able to fully harness the program, that puts my intinal investment at more than 700 bucks. The only uses I have for my truck are DD and towing every now and again with no plans to mod it at all. The reason I wanted EFI is to be able to squeese every little bit out of it and because my whole family has GM products. EFI would help troubleshooting and tuning but If I can't tune them without putting a wideband on every one then it's pretty useless... I just can't decide anyone got anything to add?

Main issue now is can I tune accurately tune without a wideband? How do all the mail order guys do it and accomplish anything, I have plenty of time but I need to know that it is possible to accurately tune something without a wideband...

You do not need a wideband to tune. A wide band helps when tuning for every last drop of power. But a great job can be done without it. It has areas to tell how rich and lean the engine is running..

That makes me feel alittle better, everything I was reading on here and elsewhere said I needed a wideband. Hell even the tutorials on the EFI Live website say you need a wideband.

You can tune using the trims, it is just a much slower process. One of the benefits of EFILive is in adjusting your transmission for towing. That is how I started, and I was not going to do any more mods, then a CAI, then headers, then a wideband, then a big trans cooler, then EFans and then a SC. Good luck.

All this being said does anyone have a link to a tutorial or thread talking about VE tuning without a wideband using EFI? I have read throught the one in the stickes and it kinda helps but it is more oriented toward HP.

Here's an example of what I am running into, one thing is being said here then everywhere else it a different story. Here they are saying you will distroy your motor if you attempt to tune without a wideband...
