Default Hard starting issues

I have a 2000 2500 with ported and milled 317's, EPS 218/226 cam, long tubes, and a custom tune. I swapped this engine in 3k ago due to hard cold starting issues. It also burned a lot of oil. The new engine runs like a champ and has good power, but the hard starting issues remain. Its like starting a carbed vehicle without a choke. It spits, sputters, and nearly dies for about the first 20 seconds then levels out. This only happens when cold. Any ideas?

It's in the custom tune.

What should I be looking at in the tune? The thing that is driving me nuts is the old engine with a stock tune started hard just like this one. Would deleting the EGR possibly cause this?

You didn't say in the first post that the old engine was on the stock tune, so to keep others from jumping to a conclusion like I did, we are going to need more info: What parts did you keep from the old engine for the swap? Injectors, EGR, throttle, FPR, intake manifold, engine temperature sensor, etc, etc.

The only thing swapped over to the new engine was the intake, throttle body, and associated sensors. The injectors are 8.1 marine units. I replaced the idle air control valve on the drivers side of the TB with no reults.

I am having a similar issue. I know its due to fuel pressure. I don't have a gauge, but I know this is because the tank is not under pressure (vacuum) when it is first started. I know this is the issue because it almost dies when I take the fuel cap off and the truck is still running. I hear air rush into the tank, and it almost dies and starts runnign really rich. I can also tell that it starts to run pretty lean when I cap it back off at first too.

Any suggestions here?

Thanks,
Rob
