fuel level sender PCM pin???

having issues with my fuel level sender. just replaced the card...still only reads empty. going to start ringing out with wiring. i have a lonnies dual in tank setup.

i did some digging and found it is pin 54 (purple) on the red connector of the PCM for a 2001. anyone know if this is the same for the 2003-up nbs computers.

i am thinking its a 5v loop, not 12v. the range is 40 to 250ohm.

the cluster is a nearly new 2006 denali cluster.

thanks ahead of time.

sending unit is working....need to find another cluster to test that end. might be a PCM issue.

It would be easier to just test the voltage at the cluster.

If its the right voltage, cluster is bad. If the voltage is wrong, pcm issue.

EVILGMC 06-04-2010 01:31 PM

i dont know what the signal from the pcm to the cluster is.... voltage, current or resistance???

This should help :D

You are on the right track by checking that wire at the pcm. You need to be checking resistance to ground on pin 54. Follow that table that Atomic posted, if it is ok there, the signal is all Data Communcation lines to the IPC, so you need to be able to check the cluster with a scan tool, or swap out with another cluster. Good luck

EVILGMC 06-09-2010 04:17 PM

have not had the chance to chase it any more. i have had a tech two on it and it reads zero as well.

pin 54 to ground and cluster are next. its frustrating....just assume 8mpg and i have not run it empty yet...hahahaha

If you have a tech 2 hooked to it go to Body, IPC, Special Functions and do a gauge sweep test. That will test the gauge, but if it is showing empty on the data then it is most likely something with the pcm wiring

thanks for the heads up on the various brains in the truck with the TECH 2
