EBCM question

My 1999 Silverado about 3 years finally threw the infamous "ABS/Brake" light. At some point later I tried to remove the little module and stripped those torx bolts so I kept on trucking...

Today I finally was able to remove the module. I had to drill the bolts with a right angle drill attachment. It seemed kinda frozen and when I pried it out I heard some popping. Well, the little cylinders broke off the circuit board. 😲

I sprayed them with some PB Blaster (that stuff stinks!) but I was able to remove just 2 of them.

Should I try to solder those little cylinders? I was originally going to just open it up and reflow the solder joints.

I need to figure out how to remove the bolt back there too.

Yikes! what about another ABS module?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I had checked RockAuto a few weeks ago and they were out of stock. I checked this morning again and looks like they are back in stock, and now require a $100 core charge. :-(

I've got several junk trucks here. Wonder if 2001 and 2002 have the same module as the 99?

01/02 have an updated model I seem to recall. Should be plug and play though.

99s had the shitty ABS that GM released a TSB for, my truck had it done all those years ago.

Yes, looks like RA shows the same Dorman part number. Although those other later years have, in addition, different part numbers if trucks were equipped with traction control. Doesn't seem like 1999 had that option.

I may try to open this one up and re-solder it. If that doesn't work I'll try to find a replacement from the wrecking yard or just get a replacement. I'm trying to figure out if that rust is just from condensation? There was no water inside when I popped it open and it was sealed pretty good. Umm...

The 99 ABS modules were junk. Just get a new one or a used 01/02. I am almost positive in what I am saying. I know my truck had the ABS module replaced either under warranty or after warranty for something very similar.

Well, a year later I finally got it replaced. I tried to resolder my broken coils and the common solder joints that fail, but it still didn't work.

I bought the Dorman one from the local parts store...😒.

I just drove the truck like 70 miles to a job site and both ABS and BRAKE lights went away.

I just have to reinstall the bracket since I took that off to get access to drill out the screws I had stripped.

Friend of mine bought a '99 brand new and his EBCM crapped out within a year or two. It would run continuously making noise under the truck even with the key off. I just disconnected it until he could get it dealt with.

I didn't even see this thread when it was originally posted but from the looks of it, your module looks like it had water intrusion? The coils should've slid right off, but maybe they're seized with rust, causing them to rip out of the circuit board at their solder joints?

How it shoulda looked when you pulled the board off the pump body..

My 99 also had the ABS module replaced under warranty back in the early 2000s. Was also bought new
