Cluster HELP!!!!
Hey Guys, just finished my 5.3/4l60 to LQ9/4l80 in my 01 Silverado. I’m having issues with my instrument cluster and looking for ideas, have code U1096 also, The speedo, tach and Gear Selector are not working. The CEL, voltage, temp, Oil pressure and back lighting are working fine. I’ve checked every fuse, swapped clusters and still nothing, any ideas? Thanks guys |
Check your grounds to the back of the block.

Also make sure the lite blue plug underneath the fuseblock is plugged in.
I forgot that plug during my swap and my gauges didn't work correctly. |
I’ve checked all grounds, pulled and checked all fuses and still can’t figure it out. I’m getting code U1096 which is loss of communication to Instrument cluster. I’ve also tried swapping clusters and still the same thing. |
As mentioned, check connection under fuse box. It may not be seated all the way.

Is there a way to test voltages or whatever at the cluster harness? |
You could check power and ground but you would need to check continuity for each signal wire. You would need a wiring diagram pin out for that.

My orange wire at cluster that is suppose to be hot at all times is dead, trying to figure out where it originates from |
Originates from the Radio fuse in the underhood fuse block in 2004. Might or might not be the same in your year.
