Default Cam tune question

Hey guys, I recently cammed my 99 4.8 sierra with a 220/224 .575 lift 112lsa cam, pac 1218 springs, stock stall. I can get it to run if I give it a lil gas on startup. I took it for a drive and seemed like it was running fine. So I brought it home and parked it. Next day I get a 0300 code for random cylinder misfire. Which I've read is common with cam swaps. I do have hp tuners pro but I'm a beginner at tuning and dont wanna brick my ECU accidentally. Can anyone help with tuning advice or should I just take it to a dyno for tuning? Either way I would like to learn how to tune my own truck. Thanks

Fix the airflow model first. Tune the MAF curve and VE tables for the cam swap. Once the fueling is in order you can play with the running airflow and other idle tables. On HP Tuner forums there is a RAF thread by Russ K I believe, you can follow that to get you started once your MAF/VE are pretty dialed.

So you don't have to back track, hopefully you went one step up on the injectors. It's very likely that the 21lb/hr injectors that are in the 1999's will be too small. You'll want/need a wideband for tuning as well.

thanks man, I'll mess with it a lil. If I still can't get it where I want it, I'm just gonna take it to get dyno tuned. The injectors are stock by the way, and duty cycle according to hptuners is right under 70%.

Bump the timing up 800-850 rpm. Trying to keep it alive with too low rpm will throw misfire codes. I had that issue

To add to what FFDP said,

p0300 is caused by the cam. The misfire tables to be adjusted to properly fix it.

Just a few quick things. Bump idle to 850 ish, add 40ish percent to idle airflow, bump idle spark up quite a bit to.
also do yourself a favor and prepare for a stall. That cam is too big for a stock stall in a 4.8

Thanks guys. As soon as I have some free time I'll get back on the tune. As of right now with the minor tweaks I have done it's running much better. Idle sits at 800rpms in P/N/D Ac off and 850 Ac on. Did some other stuff and it hasn't had any problems. Could still use a dyno tune to really dial it in. But for now it's running good. Next on the list will be a wideband and a dyno tune. Then in the further future a 4l80e swap with a better converter and higher stall. Appreciate the help tho guys. 👍
