Default 80e swap question; why not use a 6.0L ECM?

The transmission in my wife's Tahoe will likely eat dirt sometime in the next few months, and I'd like to do an 80e change--the installation looks pretty straight forward, but I was reading about a lot of trouble with the TCC lock-up post swap?

Why can't a 6.0L ECM be sourced and used instead? The 6.0L and 5.3L must be pretty similar as far as tunes go, right?

Sorry if it's been answered before, just haven't been able to find it if it has ...

HP Tuners and a segment swap makes the TCC a non issue.

The 60E and 80e also utilizes a different harness and the pin outs are different at the PCM for the transmission. So you would need the PCM, harness and once it was all hooked up the engine file tuned for the 5.3L

Or you could just change the wiring like I have in the sticky in the Drivetrain section and have a segment swap done. I can tell you which is easier.....

Or you can go the plug-n-play relay route that tunedbyfrost offers, keeps 0 throttle lockup and such. All it takes after that is tuning out some codes and you can keep your 60e program.

Did I do a segment swap? This was all done on a laptop with no PCM.

I am looking at your HPT ones, and based on what I see no. You do not need a PCM to do the segment swap, just with the software and loaded with Write entire. You have three files, first appears to be a basic 60E file with a 603 vcm OS, not sure what the story is on the middle one and the last one is a 2500 6.0 80e file with a matching 603 os so you could use the segment from the last file for the first file.

Comparing my stock tune with my 80E swapped tune, segments 4 and 5 are the changes.

Edit- Hold on now I am confused, maybe you did. Which is your desired starting file? The 60E file? It almost appears like you copied all of the segments rather then just the Trans segments.

Looking at the VIN in the files you can see that H. The H = an 80 or manual trans. In this case the file had a 80 and I built them out from that, but all of the segments are the same number in all of the 6 files

Position -- Definition ------------ Character ---- Description
1 ------- Country of Origin ----------- 1 --------- United States
2 ------- Manufacturer --------------- G --------- General Motors
3 ------- Make ------------------------ C --------- Chevrolet Truck
4 ------- GVWR/Brake System ------ H --------- 9001–10000/Hydraulic
5 ------ Truck Line/Chassis Type --- C ---------- 4x2
6 ------ Series ----------------------- 2 ---------- ¾ Ton Nominal
7 ------ Body Type ------------------ 9 ---------- Extended Cab
8 ------ Engine Type ---------------- U ---------- 6.0L V8 MFI (LQ4)

They were hacked in HEX

Tune on left is the first 60E one you posted, Middle is my 80E segment swapped tune, right is a tune of mine with the 65E previously. Ignore segment 1 as it used to be 603 but I am now running a custom OS due to 2bar SD.
