Default 4.3-5.3 motor swap wiring question... with a twist

I have an 01 silverado RCSB 2wd 4.3 5 speed truck. I am swapping in an 01 5.3 from a tahoe with an auto, and 4wd. The wiring harness for the V-8 is also setup for an auto with 4wd.

Any one know of any information on how to convert the 5.3 harness to work with a manual? OR should i look for a 4.8 harness from a 2wd truck with a 5 speed?

Ok are you converting the truck to 4wd?? If staying 2wd without merging the two harnesses you have, you need 2wd harness and pcm will need to be reprogrammed.. At the very least.... Otherwise with the vss being at the back of the tcase (on the 4wd harness) you will have a lot of extra harness hanging around and should be another connector on side of manual the auto doesnt have and vice versa

You can Make the one you have work or you can find one from a 4.8 manual truck.

The main thing is you will need to flash the PCM correctly. If your not familiar with this you will need an experienced tuner to do it correctly.

My truck is staying a manual, and 2WD. the only thing i am swapping out is the motor, and the wiring harness.

I know the PCM needs a reflash

If i got a 4.8 2wd manual harness, why would I have to combine it with my original harness?

I plan to pull the 4.3, toss it.... pull the fuse box, remove the 4.3 engine harness block from it, install a V8 harness block into it, and reinstall the fuse block.

I would like to pull all un needed wires from the current 5.3 AUTO 4wd harness i have, and use that. If that is not possible, i will get a new harness.

If it is possible, Does any one know what I need to do to my current 5.3 auto 4wd harness to work in a 2wd manual configuration?

Obviously transfer case and transmission wiring will need to at least be rewired, neitral safety switches are different from auto to manual... Dont have wiring diagram in front of me but can get one later today or tomorrow....

You will need a pin out of the PCM for an Auto 4x4 and a manual 4.8.for 2001 Year.

You really only need to wire up the Neutral saftey switch, I am assuming the VSS will plug in but if the sensor is different or has a different plug you will need to re wire that.

You can move the front diff actuator wiring and Auto track wiring if it was so equipped unless it was a manual shift 4x4.

You can also use a 4.8 Manual trans wiring harness if you can find one complete. That will be much harder to find though...

Are you keeping the trans you have now or swapping it for something else??? You may be able to pull the trans wiring out of your harness and reuse it with the 5.3 harness.... What i meant before by merging the two harnesses....
