Default What would you do?

I have a supercharged 2004 Silverado SS with 190,000 miles. It has a built trans, triple disc converter, t-case from GM, both front wheel bearings, tires, Belltech Street Performer shocks, etc. Oh and it ran 12.20!

It gets factory gas mileage (13/16) and idles/drives like stock other then the additional power. Honestly, you would be surprised it has those many miles by looking at it or driving it.

It's an awesome ride but it is going to need an engine eventually. That wouldn't be an issue considering how much money I've sunk into getting this to it's current state, but the gas mileage isn't great and considering I drive 30,000+ a year, I've come to a cross road.

A. Get a car to drive. However, I use my truck for things a car couldn't carry. I'm also 6'8"/275lbs so cars suck!

B. Get a diesel truck. I like this one and I want a Duramax, but the difference in price from diesel to gas is ridiculous and offsets a lot of the mileage advantage the duramax would give me. This is referring to the 05-07 classic body style. The newer trucks get crappy mileage. And to top it off in a negative way, those classic trucks are commanding ridiculous amounts of money! Hard to shell out 25,000-35,000 for a 10 year old truck with sort of low of miles (70K or around there).

C. 2014 Silverado. I like this option but not fond of high prices these fetch. Might go this option though and either suck it up and pay out my *** now or wait another 12-18 months and pick one up at a much more reasonable price with 20-30K miles.

Other issue is it seems hard to privately sell used cars/trucks in this market, plus most dealers don't want a modified vehicle.....

I've debated this over and over again in my head and it's spinning! lol

Buy a mid 2000 car for 2-3 grand. Should still be very reliable and get you best of both worlds.

Who said your truck is going to need an engine? At 230,000 miles my 6.0 ran great and you would never know it had 10 bottles of a 100 shot ran threw it. You current truck should easily get you another year or two without any big issues.

I agree on the car but I hate them (I'm 6'8" 275lbs). Trucks are so much nicer and I use mine often and don't always know that I will need it until that moment. Cars just suck for me. Definitely would be the way go otherwise.

Engine runs great but I have to think it is going to need rebuilt sooner or later. I would love to go 300,000 miles with it! Bigger issue is the fuel economy or I would have never posted this. I'm going to start driving a ton more starting next month for work and could see myself potentially putting 35-40K on in a year!!!

That's why I feel like its time. Truck is still beautiful, runs good, drives good, etc. At some point I will end up dumping a ton more money into it and it will still get crappy mileage.

For reference I see 13.5-14.5 in mixed driving (not to shabby really). I get 16-17 best case on hwy.

Drove a buddies 2014 cc/sb 5.3 4x4 and got 19 in combined driving and averaged 23.5 at 70mph. Only problem being I'm a hot rod crackhead and if I was going to drop that major coin on a new truck I would probably swing for the 6.2.....lol! And they aren't as happy on the fuel as the 5.3

Did you try going and sitting in some of the newer mid to full sized cars almost all have a model getting 30 mpg. It will save you a ton. I drive a ton too and $40 fill ups are way nicer than $100.

do you need the truck to "work"? you said you carry some stuff but is it heavy? you could get a s-10 for work, those have some head room and a bed and are decent on fuel. then keep the silverado for play time and cruising

6'8" 275? Cmon.

Give to a friend that'll take care of it, & when u need to, he can let u use it.

Keep the SS!!!

Are u using SSS to carry things for work or just for leisure? What about keep SSS if u just haul stuff not that often, & get a new car (spacious enuff for your size). Anything out there like that?
Caddy, Flex, Impala? Somethin. Too bad u drive the miles & while I'm not a fan of it (leasing that is), lease whatever for awhile, then after prices go down after 12-18 mos. on a newer Silverado, grab 1.
Ditch the lease, or offset some miles if u risk goin over by driving your truck. Just tryin to generate some ideas.
