LOL, everybody on here says save the money for an american car, but the fact of the matter is that american cars are crap compared to german bimmers. I drive a chevy and will probably always own a chevy, but in the end all the american cars have to brag about are engines.
I'm sure most people on here have never even driven a bimmer, much less an M-5. Let me just say it's absolutely amazing. Quiet as hell even at 5k rpms, turns on a freaking dime. Smooth as hell. There's even more you can't describe. The car just flat out feels solid. Those M-5's are in a different world even compared to a vette.

That car is sick and in my opinion worth every bit of that $20k. No american car is going to match up as far as quality goes. I say every bit of go for it.

Couple of questions....

Original clutch? Performance Clutch? Those are a bitch and expensive.

When was the GPS last updated and will you get the disc or is it portable w/USB?

if its a good enough deal you can probably sell it for what you buy it for, not sure if thats the case, but you can always give a try and see if it fits, if not, put it back up for sale.

The only experience I have is with my buddy's 760Li. The car has been in and out of the shop at least 7 or 8 times for the same issue (intermittent CEL) and no one can figure out what's wrong with it. He bought it used so I'm not sure if he can Lemon Law the car or not, but I'm pretty sure that if I were in his shoes I'd be contacting an attorney.

Best of luck w/ whatever you decide Jim!

when they break, they break. buddy of mine has an 04, his bro has one and his mom has one, all of which have had probs, they aren't going bimmer again. they build an excellent car, but once the warranty/extended warranty is up, you better sell that damn thing. from the mechanical standpoint they are pretty good, but it's the electrical gremlins that eat you up

on the other hand, i've had personal experiences with my old bosses m5 that was exactly like that except the blue color, and that bitch was baaaaad

My mom had a 325i and a Z3 a while ago. Bimmers are great cars and an M-5, for that price, is unbeatable. Ask the seller what kind of repair issues he has had to deal with in the past and see what you think about it but if it doesn't seem to be too bad, I would go for it. Like someone said above, if you can get the price down a little, you may be able to buy it, test it, and sell it for what you paid or a little more if you don't approve. It's the new year, splurge a little!

I'd personally hold out for an 8 series BMW. Those cars are gorgeous.
