very nice plans. looks great!

my next house will be a sheet metal building.
looking into doing one 50'x80' building, 50x40 will be the house and the other 50x40 will be the shop. 14' high walls for a lift and a loft up over the house portion for storage.

I HATE living in LA. I wish we could build things like this. You have to be a millionaire to pull something like that around here.
Congrats Jim! I guess we'll be seeing a bunch more stuff out of there once it's done!

yeah, there are some good things about living here. we have a 2400 sq/ft house. it was prety run down when we moved in but we got it for ~120k 6 years ago. it's still a little run down but geting nicer all the time. you can see it came with a big yard too.

Are you an architect? I like the cut sheet detail for the footing, kind of a hint as to you doing something in the construction industry or, you were just really bored

in stead of asfault roofing with a life of 10 years, go with copper sheets that will last 30 years, this will cut down the weight so you can go with an open cathedral ceiling over the lift and still be to build a loft area for storage.
by doing this you get to use sky lights during the day to help on electric.

should be nice, their are so many diffrent ways you can design this.
even counter sink the lift to be level with the floor.
depending on the kind of lift you can do a pit area for oil and trans work.
at the begining of it all is when you really get to customize everything just the way you want it.

asphalt shingles last 30 years around here. might do standing metal seam roofing in green. i like that look. never seen anyone use copper other than some high buck church's. copper would last prety much forever but cost a fortune.

i thought about designing in a tall cieling area with some sizor trusses. that would get me a 17' tall room in the section where i uesd them but i would give up some of my attic room. decided i will just box out the cieling where i put the lift to get the height i want and that will have minial effect of the attic room.

kind of thinking about making something cool out of that space eventualy.

you got to have the right tools to do the job.
why not have the right place to do the job in.
