Yea. pretty shitty that you have to jailbreak your phone just to get access to features it was designed to offer.

Check your Settings>General>About, then look at your Version and your Modem Firmware. If your version is 3.1.2 and your modem firmware is 05.11.07 or before then you are good to go.

Next step, go to google and search iphone 3.1.2 jailbreak and read as many of the threads and tutorials as you can, it should be simple but in my case, I had problems and had to research.

You'll need the program Blackra1n, which is free to download. And the app you will need to download to get "free" (aka cracked/hacked) apps is called installous. Youtube is your friend here and will give you step by step detailed instructions on how to do everything.

And if you don't like it, all you have to do is restore your phone to 3.1.2 and restore your backup.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, ****MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR IPHONE WITH ITUNES BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING****
that way you will have a restore point to go back on if you don't like it, and you might need it to restore your contacts/pics/apps if you have to do a full firmware restart before you can jailbreak.

Here is my new lock screen

Did this using LockInfo and weathericon, and I've only had the phone jailbroken for less than a day. I'm sure I'll have this thing really customized in a few weeks

He must have had a newer 3GS, that is called a tethered jailbreak and there is no way around it yet. Early 3GS and 3G/2G do not have to worry about it.

There are more apps I need to download to hide the main clock, and I have the temp up at the top so I can see it when I am not on my home screen.
