Default Got my old truck back

So 7 years ago I sold my 05 gmc sierra and regretted the second day. I recently started looking for a used truck and out of pure blessing I drove by some used lots and see what I thought looked liked my old truck sitting in the back. I went and looked under to see if it was. (I had headers and a custom exhaust I had built). Sure enough it was it...the exhaust, the dent in the tailgate from a chain breaking it was all there...but the ole girl has a sore hoof....bad.

First I noticed about 5 drops of fresh oil on the ground, the driver side cv axle was out of it (broken) and the truck was just rough! Went and talked to the dealer and told him the story and even had the spare key still haha! My tag receipt with my name on it turned out to still be in the glove box. So long story short he let me have it for what he gave for it on trade it...which was 3k.

the inside isn't bad at all..heated seats still work, ac, heat, bose stereo still sounds great!

the bad..at first I thought the motor was gone..it had 5psi oil pressure...turns out it was 2 quarts low.
The cv axle on the drive side was broke out.
Body damage (scratches, dings, and just neglected).

So I took it home..05 with 221,000 miles! the motor sounds good and doesn't knock and has power. the oil is back up to idling at 20psi and 40psi going down the road. Now it does smoke a little bit sometimes on start up. For the time being I put some 10w30 in it with some lucas.

Mod list is Pacesetter headers
6"rcx
procomp wheels
custome tune.

Now I don't know if a valve cover could leak bad enough to drop oil on the ground after driving. I was thinking the oil pressure sending unit maybe leaking. I have had them leak before and had the oil gauge fluctate psi readings.

The leaks

More leaks...not sure wha'ts leaking yet but something is badddddd.

Sorry for the long post but I'm super excited to have it back.

So far the plans are to make sure the motor is gonna hold for bit.
Fix the cv axle, and make any emergency repairs to the front end for the time being.

Start trying to find a 5.3 to re-build and swap in while I run the life out of this one.

Eventually...SAS this thing.!

Isn't cleaning up someone elses messes off your old truck fun haha. I did the same thing but the guy only owned it for 2 years and put like 4000 miles on it total lol. Still managed to spill something in the backseat and stain it permanently.... scratch the tint up on the drivers window and add some more scratches to it. On the plus it got a new windshield and new rear brakes on it lol. It's okay... I just redid the body front to rear and alleviated all of that lol. Engine wise is a complete swap so I don't really care about it but it runs fine and doesn't leak any more than it did before.

That's awesome. I remember seeing your truck on GMFS back in the day, it was one of my favorites and I still have a few pictures on my old computer. I always think about trying to find my old truck ('95 2500) but its been so long.

It hurts the way people treat stuff lol. but it's kinda fun fixing it back.

IDK if I will ever get the aesthetics back to where they were. Really just wanting to build it as a off-road truck now. That's why I'm looking at a SAS in the future.

IMO you should never say never. Do a reverse vin search or a car fax on your old truck to see where it was last. That's what I did on my 88 Scottsdale and low and behold, I happened upon it by chance up in Redding California in September of 2011. My parents traded it in on a Dodge Grand Caravan in the Bay Area in 1998. As long as it hasn't been wrecked or crushed, chances are it's still out there

Ah, good point. I posted a few pics on a facebook 88-98 GM group to see if anyone recognized it the other day after reading your post . How does the reverse VIN search work? I think I actually have a carfax left over so I may go head and do that. Would be awesome but I'd be afraid of the shape its in. Looking forward to following your build as I have a lifted '06 Chevy w/ a 6" RCX similar to yours. Don't think I'll ever get rid of this one.
