Winch accessories for "on-road" recovery
I recently put a big steel bumper on my truck to replace the crappy factory one that I bent up awhile back. Since the new bumper had a winch mount, and I live in the mountains where I frequently pass other drivers that have slid off the highway into either a ditch or snowbank, I decided that a winch may come in handy even though I don't 4-wheel the truck. I'm looking to put together an "on-road" recovery accessory kit with some stuff that could be used to help pull other vehicles out if they get into trouble. What should I look in to....snatch blocks, tree protectors, choker chains? I decided at a minimum I need a snatch block, but I'm undecided on how useful the choker chain or tree strap would be. Thoughts?

Where are you going to store all this stuff at in your truck?

Too much legal BS to helo people these days IMO. When a theif can sue the honeowner for getting hurt imagine what they could do if the cable broke or you damaged their vehicke further.
At minimum with a steel cabke you need a cable weight, thick leather gloves, and a couple short lengths of chain that either have hooks on the end or a couple shackles. |
I used to off-road quite a bit, and had winches on both of the trucks. All I can say is this, you cannot ever have too many winching accessories. Chains, D-rings, snatch blocks, tree savers, the list goes on and on. I almost never had a straight-up easy winch-out situation.

You never know when you need to reverse winch...
Reverse winch - YouTube Few snatch blocks, chains, shackles, gloves, straps.. better get a nother tool box now! MY favorite is when sombody ask you to come pull them out and you roll up and jus sit in the truck.. Tell them " ill pull out whatever you hook the cable to." Theres been many a times we have come out of the woods with bumpers and all kinda stuff in the bed of the truck. |

Good call, lol. I ended up getting a Smittybilt winch accessory kit. Came with a tree trunk protector, snatch block, shackle, choker chain, and leather gloves. Haven't had the opportunity to use it yet.
