turning the gov bomb into a full time posi
Ok guys i looked in my newly purchased tahoes axle it does have the The g80. It however does not work. The clutches are shot. I would like to see if it is possible to turn it into a full time posi. Like replacing the disks and removing the governor parts and installing an s spring. Its either that or fork over the money for a 9.5 sf which is kinda off the table right now. So does anyone know if this can be done and what parts i need.

Just from looking at several G80's in the past, trying to remove all the crap on the diff would be a pain in the butt. I also haven't seen a delete kit offered before.
Better off just buying a eaton tru-trac or something similar for the $400 dollars and doing it that way.

Well i was hoping to not have to mess with the gears qnd re shim everything. Ill do that when i upgrade to a 9.5 sf later but dont have the money right now to get the axle and master kit i have 4.56 gears and finding that in the bone yard is slim to none. Was hoping to put an s spring in there out of the 8.5 that has the actuall posi and not the gov lock. Im not doing any hardcore wheeling until i upgrade the axle. I have blown up to many gov locks. I would like to eliminate the governor because in all my experiences have proven that this is what takes them out.

An old dirt track racer showed me this trick. Remove the centrifugal weight setup and install an Eaton preload plate kit. I actually did this on another rearend in my 68. It actually worked pretty well. It essentially converts the G80 "locker" to a limited slip.

Awesome thats what i was looking for so the next question is how hard is it to remove the flyweight systme ive heard you need a special tool. Can i not just punch or press them out through the access holes on the ring gear side of the carrier.
